Alana is a Master's level board-certified music therapist with 20+ years of experience with a variety of populations. Alana has experience with both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric hospitals, outpatient eating disorder clinics, as well as maintaining a private practice since 2003. She has been a certified NICU Music Therapist since 2013, a certified Music Together teacher since 2014, and a Neurologic Music Therapist since 2021.
Her expertise includes working with children on the Autism spectrum, sensory processing issues, and other childhood developmental delays. Alana has a special interest in attachment parenting and child development, parenting and sibling issues, and emotional intelligence development. She also has experience conducting expressive/experiential groups with diverse psychiatric populations, including eating disorders, sexual trauma, chemical addictions, and compulsive behaviors. In her private practice, Alana has experience utilizing music therapy and expressive therapy techniques with children, adolescents, and adults of various skill, functioning, and communication levels.
Alana has conducted and published research on the use of music with chronic food refusal, and her
master’s thesis explored the relationship between music and relaxation on the mealtime stress levels of eating disordered patients. Most recently she has lead research with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and the KSO Music & Wellness program.
Alana and her husband have lived in the Knoxville area since 2006, and enjoy the ever-growing music, culture, and festivals of the City of Knoxville with their two daughters.
